Speed ka boss: Watch, Umran Malik on ODI debut clocks fastest ball, impresses fans by taking Convay and Mitchell vs New Zealand
Umran Malik came up with his trademark punching the air celebration as he did not have to wait long for his first ODI wicket on his debut in the 50-over format of the game. The Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler dismissed New Zealand’s Devon Conway in the first of a 3-match ODI series in Auckland on Friday, November 25.
Umran was brought into the attack by captain Shikhar Dhawan after the first powerplay.
In his first over, he clocked speeds of 145.9, 143.3, 145.6, 147.3, 137.1, and 149.6 kmph and followed it up with 150, 149.8, 143, 141.6, 142.5, and 146.2 kmph in the second over. After impressing with his express pace in the first two overs, Umran got the reward for his hard work on the first ball of the third over. He picked up his maiden ODI wicket when he ended Devon Conway’s stay at the crease.
Conway was caught behind by Rishabh Pant for 24. And on the very next ball after getting his maiden ODI wicket, Umran clocked 153.1 kmph. It was the fastest ball of the match.
During the same spell, Umran also dismissed Mitchell in the 20th over for 11 runs off 16 balls. It was another of those quicker deliveries and slightly outside off as the batter threw his hands at it and miscued it straight to the fielder at deep point. Deepak Hooda completed the catch comfortably as Umran picked his second wicket.
Talking about the match, Dhawan’s 72 and Shreyas Iyer’s 76-ball 80 helped India post a target of 307 against New Zealand.
In response to a 307-run target, the Kiwis made a steady start. New Zealand have won their 13th consecutive ODI at home – their longest winning streak at home
What a partnership between Tom Latham and Kane Williamson – an unbeaten 221 in just 164 balls.
Latham scored 145*, captain Kane scored 94*.
