captain Babar Azam has been facing heat ever since India defeated the rivals by 4 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup match on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The team has made good progress under his leadership as the Men in Green made it to the semis of the ICC T20 World Cup last year and also played the finale of the Asia Cup 2022 against Sri Lanka.

However, after losing to Lanka in the title match, the former players turned against the skipper. Mohammad Amir, former Pakistan pacer, is critical of Babar and his captaincy.

“If Shaheen Afridi was not in the rhythm, you should have bowled him out in the middle overs, not death overs. The way the Indians slammed Nawaz, they wouldn’t have done it against Shaheen. He would have given you one wicket in the middle overs in the form of Hardik or Virat. Pakistan would have easily won the game,” said Amir in a video shared on ICA Sports’ YouTube channel.

Amir then spoke about when India required 48 in the final three overs. Babar gave the ball to Shaheen, who conceded 17 runs, thus bringing the equation to 31 off the final two overs.

“The match’s turning point was India needing 48 runs off 18 balls. If Haris had bowled at that point, Pakistan would have won the game 99 percent,” he said.
